Bad Weather, Good News
Well, it's Wednesday here, so it must be September. The weather has changed very rapidly today, as a cold front has moved down from the north bringing thunder and lightning, rain and a chill in the air. There's a rumour that the snow will be here by mid-September, which is only 2 weeks from now!
Here are a few pictures of The Big Storm A'Comin:
Coming from the Rockies
Nasty clouds
Who moved the horizon?
We spent Saturday out hiking in K-Country (Kananaskis), and P has promised to fill you in on this with a blog of her own in the next day or two. In the meantime, here's a photo or two to whet your appetite:
Big enough for ya?
P in the trees
Trees, trees and more trees
Two shadows on the water
Sunday was spent communicating with all and sundry - all the Robbos and Bennetts, Whites (both UK and USA) and Zschockes in Germany. It was one of those days when the webcam was ringing off the hook! We eventually managed to get out of the house and go to a huge flea market/farmer's market down in the south-west, where we found a stack of linen napkins for a dollar a pop!
I've been a surgeon again for the last three days - yahoo! They gave me my knife back, but I haven't had to use it in anger yet, although I do have an OR list tomorrow so we live in hope! Blood and guts all round! Seriously though, it's nice to get back to looking after patients after spending the last month staring at cells in a lab! As part of my introduction to the service, I gave an hour-long presentation to the surgical department about the history of Northern Ireland, what the NI health service is like and what it's like to be a surgeon in NI. It seemed to go down very well indeed, and now everyone knows a little more about me, which can't be bad.
Also got a few pics from The White House this week:
The Wee Man: What's He Thinking?
Windows on a Mac? Surely not...
Lastly, we have some EXCELLENT news! Paula and I both passed our Alberta driving test in the last couple of days! P passed last night and I passed today, so we have applied for our full licences and we should have them in our hot wee hands next week sometime. And then that's it - no more tests, we've passed the lot. We can drive here as long as we like, without our UK licences running out after 3 months (which would be Sept 21)!
I hold in my hand this piece of paper...
So what's happening over the next day or two? Well, I'm on call tomorrow night (Thursday) and then we'll give work the heave-ho early on Friday and head off to Banff for the Labor Day weekend. We're staying at a nice hotel, having dinner at Le Beaujolais on Saturday and then we'll get home sometime on Sunday, and we'll still have Monday off (as it's Labor Day!) So we'll probably do our webcamming with home on Monday.
See you all soon
