The Expedition Sets Out
Monday lunchtime here, 12 noon Rocky Mountain time, and the visitors have just headed off to points west of here about 10 minutes ago. Simon hired out an SUV and was expecting to get a Chevy Trailblazer, but it seems that they were out of those so he got a free upgrade to a Ford Expedition which is the big brother of the Ford Explorer, has 8 seats and a footplate to climb up into it, and it's just MASSIVE. It makes my Jeep look like a Nissan Micra:

Anyway, they're staying at the Brewster Mountain Lodge in Banff for 2 or 3 nights, depending on the weather and the amount of fun to be had in Banff. They have really had the worst luck in weather since they got here, with torrential rain and flooding last week and black clouds, cold days and sudden downpours over the weekend. We headed off to Kananaskis yesterday but had to turn back at Highway 22 as it was raining so hard we couldn't see out, even with the wipers on full. What a country this is. Instead, we turned north to Cochrane and had pie and coffee for a while, before heading to Crowfoot Crossing to do some shopping and then off to the Outback Steakhouse for an enormous dinner - real American-style portions!

Downpour

Can't see out for the rain

Clouds over Cochrane
Here are some photos of the voyagers leaving:

Hitting the Road

Note the blue skies!

At play on Tuscarora Way

We also had a great party on Saturday night with Richard & Emma and Geri & Christine bringing their kids along for a barbecue. We had 8 adults and 4 kids in the house and it was a bit of a riot! Hannah (3) and Sebastian (18 months) seemed to get on like a house on fire, and sat glued to Seb's Elmo DVD, while the babies mostly slept. We all had a bit too much to drink and Sunday morning was a bit sensitive for all concerned.

Party people
In other news, Granny Brown has been admitted to the Royal in Belfast with a chest infection. It looks like we've caught it in time, though, and she doesn't seem to be half as sick at the moment as she was when she broke her ribs. We'll be keeping in close contact with home until she's a bit better, although I expect she'll still be in hospital when I'm home again in 3 weeks (THREE WEEKS - can't believe it!)
Lastly for today, my iPod has been declared dead and I'm selling it on ebay, as last-minute repairs failed:

No Go
If you want to place a bid, have a juke here.
That's all for now,
J
